VINELAND – Authorities say a woman experiencing financial issues engaged in prostitution and dog breeding to make an income.
Police arrested Babette Massaro, 60, of Vineland on charges of prostitution after trying to solicit an undercover officer.
The investigation began during the month of January when Vineland police received information that a female was possibly conducting prostitution from a home on the 3700 block of Connelly Drive.
Surveillance was conducted in the area and a male observed coming from the residence was stopped and questioned. He admitted to going to the residence in order to engage in prostitution.

Further investigation revealed Massaro was breeding and selling Yorkie dogs as another supplemental source of income. She advised officers that she had been committing prostitution and raising dogs due to financial issues.

Fox 29 reached out to Massaro for comment at her house after our report first aired on TV.

The killing was the latest in a series of grisly examples of subjugation of women that have made headlines in Afghanistan in the last few months – including a 15-year-old tortured and forced into prostitution by in-laws and a female rape victim who was imprisoned for adultery.
The episodes have raised the question of what will happen to the push for women’s rights in Afghanistan as the international presence shrinks along with the military drawdown. NATO forces are scheduled to pull out by the end of 2014.

BURLINGTON. – Two men are facing charges for allegedly bringing a woman from New York City to Vermont to engage in prostitution with farm workers.
Jose Lorenzo Cardona-Paguada and Rafael Posadas-Lara appeared Thursday in federal court in Burlington, where they were ordered to remain in custody pending trial on charges of transporting for prostitution. Officials say the two men and the woman, Maribel Huerta-Mendez, are illegal immigrants.
The Burlington Free Press reported that border patrol agents recovered two notebooks with names, addresses and phone numbers of farms in Vermont and New York, along with a ledger of prostitution transactions.
The case is the second in the past year involving charges that Hispanic women from New York were brought to Vermont farms for prostitution purposes. Many Vermont dairy farms employ foreign workers.
