Achilles said keeping families informed sometimes amounts to a quick phone call — even just to say there is no update.
The benches in the ceremonial courtroom were filled for the gathering, which coincides with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This year’s theme was “Extending the Vision: Reaching Every Victim.”
Every year, someone mentions that while it’s the group no one wants to join, the membership keeps growing.
“It seems every day there is a new member,” said Florence Manga of Aston.

Their son, 23-year-old Todd Manga, was working as an armed security guard at a Philadelphia massage parlor when he was fatally gunned down by a gang of robbers Aug. 4, 1995 — two months after the local chapter of the support group held its first meeting.

Philadelphia Massage Parlors: BOOK REVIEW: ‘Harbor Nocturne’
April 20, 2012
When a strip club dancer named Daisy hears that her baby sister was one of the women who died in the container, she tells Lita and another girl that she is going to the police to inform on Kim. Lita later sees Daisy confronting Kim, and then Daisy disappears. Lita is frightened of what Kim might have done to Daisy and what he might do to her, so she calls Dinko and asks him to pick her up. Dinko hides Lita in the house he shares with his mother, and the two begin to fall in love.
As Kim searches for Lita, Markov has Cozzo introduce a Russian gangster with apotem-nophilia (the desire for the amputation of a healthy limb or limbs) to a massage parlor customer with a prosthetic foot. Unknown to Cozzo, the “customer” is Jetsam, one of the surfer cops. Jetsam, who lost a foot in the line of duty, was recruited to work undercover for the vice squad.
Visions for Vacancies is back with another available Collingswood downtown property. Put on your thinking caps: What do you want at 721 Haddon Ave.?
We didn’t go far for this week’s installment, as 721 is adjacent to the 709-711 Haddon Ave. property we asked about last week. Suggestions for that property include a brew pub (and making Collingswood “wet”), a live music venue and running store.
But 721 is a bit smaller, at 1,430 square feet—so probably not enough room for those ideas. So what do you want to see in the smaller space?
The storefront has a bit of an, ahem, recent history since the previously tenant was forced out of town. The shop has stood empty since then.
So have at it: Cafe? Water ice place? Nail salon? Another massage parlor? What’s your vision for this vacancy?

The zoning application for a proposed massage parlor that had raised much concern has been withdrawn.
Mi Kyong Park, owner of 428 Pennsylvania Ave., Fort Washington, had filed a zoning application with Whitemarsh Township to use the second floor of the building as a massage therapy facility.
The application was set to go before the Whitemarsh Zoning Hearing Board March 7. The applicant, however, withdrew the application the morning of the scheduled hearing, according to Whitemarsh Director of Planning and Zoning Charles L. Guttenplan.
Stephen Shelly, attorney for the applicant, said the decision to withdraw the application came after receiving feedback from several township boards.
“We decided just to step back and re-evaluate the entire situation,” he said. “We had been through an earlier zoning hearing, the planning commission and the board of supervisors. Taking into account all their comments and thoughts, we just thought it would be best to withdraw at the moment.”

While the property falls in Whitemarsh Township, Pennsylvania Avenue is the dividing line with Upper Dublin Township, which also expressed its concerns about the proposed massage parlor.
Two proposed additions to Pennsylvania Avenue in Fort Washington have residents and officials in both Upper Dublin and Whitemarsh townships concerned.
While SEPTA has proposed constructing two billboards near the turnpike interchange, a massage parlor is looking to go into a building in downtown Fort Washington.
Both proposals are being opposed by Whitemarsh Township and the Fort Washington Rescape committee, a group of residents dedicated to improving the look of downtown Fort Washington. Although both proposed additions fall in Whitemarsh Township, they have attracted attention from the Upper Dublin community as well, as Pennsylvania Avenue is the dividing line between the townships.
SEPTA has proposed erecting two double-sided LED-illuminated billboards in the SEPTA right-of-way, which runs parallel to Pennsylvania Avenue. One would be located at the edge of the turnpike right-of-way, while the other would go at the edge of the Route 309 right-of-way.

Stratford massage parlors raided, 4 women arrestedJanuary 19, 2012|By James Osborne, INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Police raided two Stratford massage parlors Thursday that are suspected to be part of a prostitution ring with connections to New York City.
Shortly after 1 p.m., officers swept into Heavenly Hands Massage on Yale Avenue and then the Natural Massage Center on West Laurel Road, arresting two employees at each place.
Detectives had been investigating the establishments for a month after receiving reports from neighbors of men parking down the street and walking to the establishments, said Stratford Police Chief Ronald Morello.
At both locations, undercover officers allegedly were offered sex in exchange for money. When police went to the businesses Thursday, they found only one customer, who appeared to be getting a legitimate massage. But they found hidden surveillance cameras with no monitors – believed to be a mechanism for someone else to track customer traffic. “It’s a network. These women travel around. They get busted, and they g …
