DAILY GRINDER: Drexel U. Attacked for ‘Abortion Clinic Escort Service’
Our dear friends at Life News have a new boogeyman: Drexel University. (All those engineering students in one place? Sounds fishy.) The school has a service in which students can escort women to abortion clinics, protect them from potential anti-choice protester harassment, observe protesters and make sure none overstep their bounds. This is terrible, according to the pro-life op/ed website. Also, people who chill out side women’s health facilities aren’t harassing anyone — they’re simply “sidewalk counselors” (true story) so what’s the big deal? “Facilitating the deaths of unborn children, intimidating pro-life sidewalk counselors with bogus legal threats, and misinforming students about constitutional law is a far cry from the public good!” reads this article. Life News is the same site that wrote women in Pennsylvania need government ultrasound legislation because as soon as they step inside an abortion complex, they can no longer think for themselves.

The bill would bring adults and juveniles convicted of disorderly persons offenses under the state’s DNA Database law, which requires anyone convicted of a first- to fourth-degree crime to provide a DNA sample after sentencing.
“We have to give the law enforcement community every tool possible to fight crime,” Sacco said. “By expanding DNA sampling to anyone convicted of a crime, we can greatly increase the accuracy and effectiveness of the database.”
Some see the law as a potential blow to privacy rights.
“It’s just more Big Brother watching,” said Calvin Hart, president of the Jersey City NAACP chapter and a retired Jersey City detective. “People don’t trust law enforcement as it is . . . It’s another invasion of privacy.”
Examples of disorderly persons offenses include shoplifting goods under $200, criminal mischief, defiant trespass, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and prostitution.

According to prosecutors, Escorts.com facilitated “interstate prostitution.” Prostitutes and their customers would pay to use the site to set up assignations.
Under the settlement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office will not bring any additional criminal charges against the two companies or other ventures connected to the firms, which include Hotmovies.com and PrimeTel Communications. The agreement does not bar the IRS from bringing any tax-related charges and fines. The plea agreement does not name a Philadelphia man, Richard Cohen, 54, who is a principal shareholder of National A-1, according to a sentencing memo filed by federal prosecutors. A Philadelphia Daily News investigation last year reported that companies run by Cohen developed and operated Escorts.com out of an office building on Seventh Street near Chestnut. “The defendants received subscription fees and payments in the form of money orders, checks, and credit cards from escorts and users of Escorts.com throughout the nation,” according to the ple …

CM Punk comes out to start the show, to his music. Chris Jericho is not here this week, according to Punk. Recap shown of last week’s storyline turn where Jericho brought up Punk’s alcoholic father. Punk says it’s HIS story to tell and begins to tell his side of the story. He says his father has battled demons and he is proud that his father has beaten them for now. After a bit, Jericho appears in a suit on the Titantron – billed as live – and cuts a promo. Jericho says as Chris, he is sorry that he crossed the line and won’t bring up the father again. But then brings up Punk’s sister who is a drug addict and intimates that she is also a prostitute. Punk gets mad, curses which is muted out and says he will beat Jericho at Wrestlemania.

Industry Leaders, Mainstream Media Blast Santorum’s Anti-Porn Pledge

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum opened a “Porndora’s Box” last week when the Republican Presidential hopeful’s campaign website posted a mission statement vowing to vigorously prosecute the adult industry that he claims is creating a national “pandemic.”
Peppered with crackpot assumptions like porn causes brain changes in children and adults that lead to toxic marriages, misogyny, prostitution and sex trafficking, Santorum’s screed ignited a firestorm of controversy and outrage among the adult industry and mainstream media.
Top industry leaders including Hustler founder Larry Flynt, Vivid Entertainment co-founder Steven Hirsch, Pink Visual CEO Allison Vivas along with a number of performers blasted the former Pennsylvania Senator’s vehement anti-porn position and vow to rectify the Obama administration’s soft stance on adult obscenity prosecutions.

American corporations have been trained for more than a century that there is a firewall between advertising and editorial in the professional mainstream media, and this firewall exists in spades inside NPR. We have, sadly, become a cynical people in recent years, quick to believe that sinister forces are somehow at work in much of public life, and, so, many readers may guffaw about firewalls. They are wrong.
I would be shocked if it even enters into the mind of any NPR journalist—as well as those in almost all of the mainstream media—to do, not do or shade a story because a company is a sponsor or advertiser or not. The staff that sells sponsorships does not contact the newsroom to ask for coverage favor for a corporate client. To do so is a firing offense. Companies and marketers almost universally know not to ask journalists for coverage favors in return for sponsorship and advertising. To do so would be an insult—like asking a professional journalist to be a prostitute. It would invite distrust and negative coverage. It also would undermine the independence that attracted NPR’s coveted audience in the first place.

While some Catholic bishops and other religious leaders have complained loudly that Obama’s policy is an infringement on religious expression, Limbaugh took it to the extreme, as only he can, calling Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” and suggesting that the taxpayers should get to see videotapes of her engaging in sex acts because they’re paying the cost of her promiscuity.
Say what?!?!
Rather than standing up for Fluke, in particular, and all women generally, the so-called Republican leadership delivered this tepid response:
House Speaker John Boehner said Limbaugh’s comments were “inappropriate.”

He conceded that he shouldn’t have used those two words, “slut” and “prostitute,” but apparently stood by the rest of his vile commentary, which included the remark that Fluke was having so much sex he was surprised she could walk.
