… I can assure you that there has been no transfer of services or goods to Sgt. Bee,” said Binns.
Auto and salvage companies owned by former policeman Eddie Alfano were hit with search warrants as well, sources said. Alfano is a central figure in the probe. He has long been a major player when it comes to the towing of abandoned carrs off city streets. Calls to his office for comment were referred to his attorney, Fortunato Perri.
“I don’t know if he is a primary target. I can say that Mr. Alfano has been involved in successful, legitimate business enterprises for the past 40 years,” Perri said. “He intends to fully comply with the government’s inquiries at this point.”
The FBI also searched and seized records from two strip clubs located on property owned by Alfano.

Ex-owner of call-girl ring gets “slap on the wrist” in plea deal

A man who once owned a glitzy call-girl ring that claimed to cater to Denver’s elite was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to six months of home detention.
Scottie J. Ewing also was ordered to serve three years of supervised probation and pay $77,614 in restitution.
Between early 2004 and mid-2005, Ewing owned a prostitution service called both Denver Sugar and Denver Players. The service charged customers $300 an hour, and escorts who worked for the service told 9News in 2008 that the business’ client list included prominent figures. Then-Chief U.S. District Judge Edward Nottingham resigned from the bench that year after a 9News report alleged that Nottingham’s name appeared on the escort service’s client list.

At the time federal agents busted the ring in 2008, the service was owned by Brenda Stewart, who faces money laundering, racketeering, witness tampering and tax evasion charges in federal court. Stewart allegedly bought the business from Ewing, and federal authorities only charged Ewing with a single count of tax evasion for not paying income tax on money he earned from the business.

Philadelphia Escorts: Campbell Soup Co. plans to fight hunger, obesity
February 15, 2011
The iconic company was founded in Camden in 1869 and has kept its headquarters here even as the city transformed from an industrial dynamo to one of the nation’s poorest cities. But the relationship hasn’t always been easy: Campbell closed its last canning facility in the city 20 years ago. And as recently as five years ago, the company was considering moving out.
But it decided to stay, expand and upgrade its campus, and take charge of redevelopment of a swath of land nearby. The centerpiece of that effort, a showy new building at the heart of the company headquarters, opened last year.
Conant said that when the company decided to stay, its officials also decided to try to do more for Camden — even beyond the $1 million or so a year the company’s foundation regularly gives to various causes in the city.
The hard-luck city, which has seen all its major manufacturing operations close, is made up of low-income neighborhoods. Boarded-up, abandoned houses are common. So is drug-dealing on the streets and prostitution. One national survey regularly finds Camden to be one of the most crime-ridden places in the U.S.
