Events: Fristfest The three-day Fristfest extravaganza begins with a picnic and carnival on the Frist South Lawn. A number of Princeton University musicians – including Funkmaster General, the Plagiarists, Baba Fat and Sarah Donner – will perform along with the New York group Dende and Hahahaes. Food will be served throughout the evening, and the carnival will include a number of fun activities. Frist South Lawn Thursday, 4-10 p.m.
Film: Zombieland
A virus is turning humanity into flesh-eating zombies, and the only ones who can stop them are an unlikely quartet: a redneck from Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), an awkward college student (Jesse Eisenberg) and two sisters (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin). By always avoiding strip clubs and always having Bounty paper towels, the four will survive where others have failed. The gags are hilarious, and the zombie killing is ridiculous. You will never look at zombies in the same way again. Refreshments will be served at the event, which is a part of this weekend’s Fristfest. Frist South Lawn Friday, 9 p.m.

I told my friend that Kerry had competed against Iron Chef Cat Cora on that iconic television show and defeated the champion with a hamburger! (something which people talk about to this day.) Three years ago I reviewed his local restaurant after he opened it to much acclaim, coming from his then-Las Vegas venue – Prime, at Steve Wynn’s Bellagio Hotel (which Kerry then left after a change in management); he was seeking to achieve a higher presence in the L.A. market. From time to time, readers have reported having wonderful dinners here…but the restaurant doesn’t seem to have achieved the wide acclaim Kerry has achieved in Las Vegas. On a recent trip there, I stopped in at Simon Palms Place at the Malouf’s Palms Place hotel/condo just off the strip, but it was so jammed I couldn’t get a table. (I did walk over to view the six shelves of potted herbs on a glass wall in the rear of the restaurant….talk about having a green environment.) And his second restaurant in Las Vegas, Cathouse at the Luxor Hotel, is equally hot, but not quite my thing. (Although decorated like a Parisian brothel, I’m told the food is serious.)

Peter Elkind was on a ski vacation with his family when word came over his BlackBerry that a certain former college acquaintance who had not long before been elected governor of New York was embroiled in a prostitution scandal and would soon resign. Elkind, the author of The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron, has known Spitzer since both were at Princeton—one as the editor of the campus paper, the other as a striving student and budding politician. He got to know Spitzer better when the future governor served as attorney general, interviewing him often about his crusades against Wall Street titans. The relationship continued as Elkind set out to do his latest book, with the two spending over 20 hours together over the course of the reporting for Rough Justice, a work Elkind hopes will serve as the definitive biography of the former governor’s life and career—so far.

One night during the fall of his freshman year, John Burford ’12 found himself at the Show & Tel strip club on the south side of Philadelphia with six other Princeton freshmen. All seven were pledge brothers in Princeton’s chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and they had made the 45-mile trip south because Burford had specific instructions from the older brothers in the fraternity: Make a visit to “the hot seat.”
…
One senior, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, recalled his experience rushing Alpha Epsilon Pi, explaining that pledges were required to make trips to Philadelphia, where they had to complete tasks like peeing on the University of Pennsylvania’s famed “Split Button” sculpture or receiving a lap dance from a black stripper. Other Alpha Epsilon Pi pledges, the senior said, were forced to crawl around in the Mathey Courtyard and pretend to be cows by eating grass and mooing loudly. Arthur Levy ’10, whose netID is listed on the website of Alpha Epsilon Pi’s national organization as the official contact for the Princeton chapter, declined to comment for this article.

Four New Jersey cities are getting $2.3 million in federal grants to help clean and redevelop abandoned industrial sites.
Allentown police have brought in the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in Alexandria, Va., to help with the search. The group has placed Kayla on its ”endangered runaway” national database, which includes her photo and local information. The group also has been in touch with police departments in other cities and with retired law enforcement officers from the region to help with the case. Nearly 1 million children go missing every year in the United States, according to the center. More than half of the missing are runaways and most, nearly 80 percent, are found within a week.
”We are concerned about her welfare and are working with the Allentown police,” said Bill Lowry, executive director of the missing children’s division. ”The circumstances are that she doesn’t have any money and is exceptionally vulnerable to violence and other issues, such as human trafficking, prostitution, narcotics and gang activity and the longer she is missing the greater our concern becomes.”
