Philadelphia Strip Clubs: Caught in the Web: Gilbert Arenas & Javaris Crittenton have season-long …
January 29, 2010
It’s been said that this whole incident wasn’t as serious as the New York Post initially reported, which said both players pointed guns at each other. Nonetheless, the incident yielded serious consequences for obvious reasons. Arenas’ 50-game suspension is the NBA’s third most severe suspension not involving drugs, behind Ron Artest’s 86-game suspension for his role in the brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills in 2004 and Latrell Sprewell’s choking of Warriors Coach P.J. Carlesimo in 1997 that ultimately resulted in a 68-game suspension. Meanwhile, Crittenton’s 38-game suspension is the league’s fourth highest. Before this incident, Stephen Jackson’s seven-game suspension for his felony count for criminal reckless driving and firing seven shots near an Indianapolis strip club in 2006 counted as the league’s longest suspension for a gun-related offense.

Most serious charge dropped, but Finkelstein to still face a prostitution charge
…
Susan Finkelstein, the woman who posted a Craigslist ad saying the she was in desperate need of World Series tickets and allegedly offered sex to an undercover police officer that answered the ad last October, was arrested on charges of promoting prostitution, as well as prostitution.
The most serious charge against Finkelstein — promoting prostitution — was dropped Friday. Finkelstein must still face the charges of prostitution and criminal attempt of prostitution in a trial that begins Feb. 24. The latter charge was added Friday.
…
In a preliminary hearing Dec. 16, the Bensalem police officer that arrested Finkelstein gave shocking testimony, saying that Finkelstein sent him three topless photos, allegedly “spread her legs” and asked him “would you like to touch it?” and stated that Finkelstein told him, “I’m a prostitute. I love sex. I’m a whore.”
Philadelphia Escorts: Woman wants sex-for-Series tix charges tossed
January 29, 2010
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A judge has dismissed one of the charges against a Philadelphia woman accused of having offered sex for World Series tickets.
A judge in Bucks County on Friday dismissed the charge of promoting prostitution against 43-year-old Susan Finkelstein.
That’s according to her attorney, William Brennan.
Finkelstein still faces a lesser charge of prostitution, which is also a misdemeanor. Trial is scheduled for Feb. 24.
Bensalem police allege that Finkelstein sent sexually explicit photos of herself after posting an online Craigslist ad in October and made graphic suggestions when she met with an undercover officer at a bar.
Finkelstein says she was merely being creative in her attempt to take her husband to a game between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.
According to the Bucks County Courier Times, her attorney says Finkelstein shouldn’t be charged with “promoting prostitution” because the law requires there to be a third person involved such as a pimp, which there wasn’t. He also said she can’t be charged with a general prostitution charge either because the law requires someone to be running a business, such as a massage parlor, or loitering out on the street.
…
An undercover officer met her at a Bensalem bar, as three others stood nearby. As the two drank beer, the officer says Finklestein identified herself as a prostitute and said she was “willing to do anything” to secure World Series tickets.
…
Finklestein denies she ever identified herself as a prostitute or used graphic language offering sex for tickets.
…
The self-described “buxom blonde” had already faced a charge of promoting prostitution.

Philadelphia Escorts: Bernard Fernandez: Rock Ministries of Kensington finds diamonds in the rough …
January 29, 2010
And so it came to be that these missionaries realized that they did not have to journey to far-flung places around the globe to help wayward youths find a better way. They would do it only yards from the corner of Kensington and Somerset, which some had deemed the worst drug intersection in America, if not the world.
“We decided to make an investment in the lives of kids right here in Kensington,” Osborn says. “When a kid understands that he’s not a throwaway, that’s when he becomes an amazing participant in the community.”
The building where all this good work would be performed was a wreck. “Prostitutes were turning tricks in here. Addicts were shooting up. Even the rats were embarrassed to be seen in it,” Osborn says, only half-jokingly. But the rotting shell of the past has been considerably spiffed up with mostly volunteer labor and, in some instances, donated equipment.
WASHINGTON (AP) – Embattled Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke won confirmation for a second term Thursday, but only by the closest vote ever for the crucial post and after withering criticism from lawmakers for bailing out Wall Street while other Americans suffered in recession. The Senate confirmed Bernanke for a new four-year term by a 70-30 vote, a seemingly solid majority but 14 votes worse than the closest previous vote for a Fed chairman.

The grim reality opened a divide between the rank and file and congressional leaders, who insisted health care would get done, even though last week’s special election in Massachusetts denied Democrats the 60-vote majority they need to deliver in the Senate. Many Democrats saw a problem with no clear solution.

Woman wins suit over firing
TRENTON — A jury yesterday awarded $150,000 for lost wages and emotional distress to a saleswoman who was fired after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a co-worker at a Hightstown adult entertainment distribution company.
After a two-week trial, jurors took about four hours to decide that East Coast News owed Doreen Longo compensatory damages for firing her in 2006. The jury will reconvene at 9:30 today for a trial on punitive damages against East Coast News and its owner Frank Koretsky.
Longo’s attorney Andrew Dwyer said he was pleased with the award.
“This is exactly what we were hoping for,” Dwyer said. “The jury has vindicated my client and awarded appropriate damages.”
In a discrimination and hostile work environment suit against East Coast News and its affiliated Pleasure Productions and International Video Distributors, Longo said her bosses ignored her repeated complaints that a co-worker was sexually harassing her and threatening her with violence.
