Philadelphia Adult Entertainment: Rutgers–Camden Student Researcher Explores Origins of Maternal …
July 31, 2009
The Rutgers–Camden senior is often shocked by articles written by prominent physicians, including early autism researcher Leo Kanner, who coined the term “refrigerator mothers” to describe “cold” mothers who forced their children into autism. In 1949, Kanner wrote: “[Children] were left neatly in refrigerators which did not defrost. Their withdrawal seems to be an act of turning away from such a situation to seek comfort in solitude.”
According to Laurie Bernstein, an associate professor of history at Rutgers–Camden who mentors Jennifer, this research on 20th-century psychiatric journals showcases how post-Freudian notions of mothers as all-powerful affected attitudes toward autism.
“Jen is looking to see when and why mental-health professionals stopped blaming ‘refrigerator mothers’ for their children’s illnesses and started locating autism in neurology, not neurosis,” states the author of Sonia’s Daughters: Prostitutes and Their Regulation in Russia (University of California Press, 1995). “An extremely bright and committed student, Jen has a sophisticated grasp of gender issues that makes her a perfect person for this scholarly quest.”

A Bucks County, Pa. man pleaded guilty (see related story), and a federal judge has now accepted the plea, in a so-called sex tourism case. The defendant was charged with traveling to Russia to have sex with children sold in to prostitution.
The judge says she will sentence defendant Andrew Mogilyansky to a sentence somewhere within the guidelines for the case, between six and a half and eight years in prison.
Prosecutor Michelle Morgan-Kelly says Mogilyansky preyed on children and molested them. He allegedly traveled from Philadelphia to St. Petersburg, Russia to engage in sex with young girls who were taken from an orphanage to his apartment there.
Defense attorney Jack McMahon:
“This was something that was in their childhood and obviously, they don’t want to revisit it. And this eliminates their having to revisit it, so it’s good for them. But most importantly, Mr. Mogilyansky recognized that, and that was one of his motivations for not pursuing any defense in this case because he didn’t want them to relive the wrong he had inflicted on them.”

Philadelphia Strip Clubs: Updating a classic tragedy
July 31, 2009
Dalio says these characters from the ancient world aren’t very different from people today: They squabble with their parents, fall in love with problematic people and are often ruled by their hearts instead of by their heads. It is with some regret that Amneris narrates this story, since Radames and Aida die together, and this “Nile Valley girl” doesn’t get the man she wants, a new experience for the Pharaoh’s spoiled daughter.
Dance numbers — depicting everything from Amneris’s passion for clothes to the fierce fighters of the Egyptian army to the pathos of the conquered Nubians — are a major factor in this show. For that reason, choreography was entrusted to Dann Dunn, who began his theatrical career as a performer at the Ritz while still in school, later worked as dance captain and choreographer at many theaters, and is now preparing his next Ritz show, “The Full Monty.”
“‘Aida’ and “Monty,’ couldn’t be more different. This one’s spectacular and so varied, but “Monty’ is about a bunch of unemployed men, amateurs who aren’t dancers but become strippers out of desperation.
Camden Council U-turn over burlesque licensing plans
Published Thursday 30 July 2009 at 13:24 by Lalayn Baluch
Burlesque performers are celebrating after Camden Council backtracked on plans to licence them in the same way as strippers and lap dancers.
In May, the London authority caused outcry among artists and local venue owners – such as Alex Proud of the Proud Galleries – when it demanded that all burlesque performances involving “nudity or stripping” be classed as adult entertainment, and therefore regulated under the same licensing system as lap-dancing clubs.
The decision prompted fears for the future of the artform, with more than 1,500 people signing a petition on the Downing Street website in protest of the licensing requirement.
Performers were concerned that such a reclassification would change people’s perception of burlesque and increase costs for those wanting to stage shows.

Philadelphia Adult Entertainment: ABC Buries Democratic ids in Story on Massive Dem Corruption in NJ
July 30, 2009
Claiborne added, “Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James is currently serving time after being convicted on federal corruption charges.” What fact is absent from this description of New Jersey’s woes? All of the above are Democrats. He continued this list by highlighting another unidentified Democrat: “Hoboken Mayor Pete Cammarano took office three weeks ago. In a matter of days, he allegedly took a $25,000 bribe.”
A July 12, 2001 study by the Media Research Center found that as the Gary Condit controversy was playing out, only eight percent of network stories identified the then-Congressman’s political party after he was found to have an adulterous affair with Chandra Levy.
On March 13, 2008, the MRC’s Rich Noyes pointed out that as the coverage of Eliot Spitzer and his connection to a prostitution ring broke, only 20 percent of the stories labeled him as a Democrat. In contrast, these same news shows were much more likely to identify Senator David Vitter as a Republican when his sex scandal became public.

Philadelphia Adult Entertainment: Statement on burlesque
July 30, 2009
Our concern is to ensure proper regulation of the premises proposing to offer licensable activity. Our focus is on the premises – not the performers. It is the responsibility of the venue’s licence holder to ensure they have the correct permission for the event they are hosting.
Burlesque performance in its widest form can include various art forms and this alone would not require a licence. The Council’s concern is with any performance which may involve nudity. The Council looks at each application on an individual basis to assess what type of licence is required.
The Council has met with the burlesque community in response to their concerns and agreed to seek a clearer understanding of what constitutes adult entertainment. This will help define what reasonable measures premises should put in place prior to adult entertainment being performed.

The trial began with testimony on June 29 before U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan. The jury returned its verdict following deliberations yesterday and today. Judge Sheridan scheduled sentencing for Nov. 2.
In January of last year, Langforddavis, a close friend of Dobson, was arrested in the parking lot of an Elizabeth adult entertainment club for the possession of Dobson´s handgun after police officers with the Elizabeth Police Department recognized him as an individual who had days earlier misrepresented himself as a law enforcement officer to the police officers by showing them a handgun strapped to his ankle. Langforddavis is charged in a separate indictment with the unlawful possession of the weapon. That indictment alleges Langforddavis is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his past criminal convictions on charges that include aggravated assault, robbery, and unlawful possession of a handgun. His trial is currently scheduled for Nov. 9.

Philadelphia Adult Entertainment: Kate Major Will Get Exactly What She Wants In Life, And It’s Not …
July 30, 2009
This is the worst. The absolute worst. Kate Major, Jon Gosselin’s new ladyfriend, is vehemently denying a “callgirl” past. Personally, I’d be far more in spin cycle over the fact that I used to report for Star and am currently taking out my lunatic, attention-hungry succubus impulses on a guy with eight kids and a scorned wife going through the nation’s most visible mid-life crisis, but that’s just me. At least there’re sex workers out there with dignity. That being said, Rush & Malloy’s source for this item about Kate Major maybe or maybe not turning tricks is a guy named Chaunce Hayden. Hayden’s a Grade-A sleazeball running his own ragtag publication – called Steppin’ Out – that’s like a city weekly for Hoboken sent from the seventh circle of hell. It’s dreadful. And every week, Chaunce fills our tips line with what can only be described as the absolute worst shit I’ve ever seen in my entire life as far as an …
